Fireplace Design - Turn Up the Heat in Style
Fireplace Design - Turn Up the Heat in Style
November 21, 2024
Who doesn't love snuggling up by a crackling fireplace? The drama and timelessness of flickering flames and moving shadows can really enhance a room. Choosing the right one can take a little thought or perhaps even a little spark of inspiration.
First, Know Your Type
Are you a wood-burning purist, or do you crave instant ambiance with a flick of a switch? Cuddling up with your cocoa by Wood fire can be so romantic and feel like a fairytale, it may also feel like a lot to deal with. Gas models are clean, easy, and can look just as cozy. Some of my favorite projects combine the easy functionality of a gas fireplace with more traditional design elements in the space. A little modern combined with a little old-timey charm can be the best of both worlds.
Size, Shape, and Keeping Things in Proportion
Big rooms beg for a grand fireplace. Small rooms? Keep it sleek. Think about the space you have. Sometimes a streamlined look can blend more seamlessly into the room. Cozy, without being overwhelming. Fireplaces come in every shape and size, so play with it. Let it fit the space like it was always meant to be there.
Out with the Old, In with the New
If you’re still using an old gas fireplace with that annoyingly dated switch, it May be time to consider an upgrade. There are so many newer options now. Why not spoil yourself with model that lights up with a remote or smart phone with multiple settings.
Embrace Vintage, or Go for the Wow Factor
Have a vintage fireplace with character? Maybe it just needs a little love. But sometimes, it’s better to start fresh. Think big. Turn it into something that makes a statement, catches the eye and sets the tone of the space. Consider custom materials or different shapes. A dramatic hearth can easily become the centerpiece of the whole room.
Storage, Style, and a Little Bit of Function
If you’ve got a wood-burning fireplace, log storage can be a beautiful part of the design. Think stacked wood right next to the hearth or on special shelving—practical elements can also be stylish. Gas fireplaces on the other hand allow for less traditional designs and sleek accessories that can create a real sense of cozy modern luxury.
Mantels can showcase art or entertainment or BOTH!
A mantel is more than just a ledge. It draws attention, creating and opportunity to showcase art, family photos or seasonal decoration. It presents huge potential personal expression or interesting compositions of smaller elements that can really lend to the vibe of the entire space. Fireplaces’ central location also make the mantel and the area above the fireplace an ideal spot to place a TV or sound system. Many people are also choosing both by having frame TVs with digital art displays. This is by far the most popular trend we have seen.
