Metallics for Mirroring
Mirrors can be used in very interesting ways in interior design - often to make a space feel bigger or to repurpose decor from the other side of the room (you get to see it twice!). Metal surfaces serve a similar purpose because they are reflective, but they often add an interesting element of distortion that has bottomless potential. Above you can see how a chrome lamp paired with neutral armchairs brings a modern and chic vibe to the space. The reflective surface of the lamp not only adds pizazz, but also compliments the city view as the distortion of the reflected room is stretched in a similar way to the buildings beyond.
Metallics for Fun
Metallic accents are fun to play with in kitchens where there is already a plethora of reflective surfaces. Metallic mesh is one of my favorite ways to do this. Below you can see an example of this obsession of mine and how it (along with some other metallic details) brings energy to a once purely functional room.
Metallics for Expansion
In smaller areas, metallics can be the bold, loud addition needed to add an expansive feeling to a space. You can feel that in the below space that would be tight otherwise but thanks to a bunch of bling, it feels nice and open. The gold tones of the chandelier and table create a warm and inviting ambiance, while the reflective surfaces add a sense of spaciousness.
While metallic accents can undoubtedly add glamor, it’s essential to balance them with other elements in the room. Too many metallics can overwhelm a space, making it look gaudy rather than elegant. Pairing metallic finishes with neutral colors, soft textures, and natural materials can create a harmonious look.
