View To a Thrill: San Francisco Bachelor Pad

Picture this: a San Francisco third-floor walkup flaunting a floor-to-ceiling panorama of two of the world’s most famous bridges. With a view that monumental, it might be tempting to tone down the rest of the interior design and let the eye-popping vista take center stage.

Instead, this enviable vantage point served as inspiration for the design of a one-of-a-kind bachelor pad by the Inspired Interiors design team, who created an environment so rich in detail that it actually seems to be interacting with you.

After engaging Inspired Interiors to transform their Chicago-area residence, which has been showcased in design publications in the United States, China and Estonia, this client again entrusted the team to optimize their second residence, reimagining several key features centered on how they uniquely like to enjoy their surroundings.

After slicing off the building’s back exterior wall to better showcase that breathtaking cityscape view and let in lots of fresh Northern California air, the interior design team set about building in meaningful moments throughout the home. Take, for example, the spectacular master suite complete with a lounging area set in a bay window overlooking a neighborhood view. You can feel the sun dappled on your shoulders as you read a book or work on your laptop. A chevron-shaped bookcase not only snatches the eye — it also serves as a sorting function — allowing the bibliophile homeowner to position his books in preferred monthly reading order.

The kitchen boldly blends a modern French bakery feel with an industrial aesthetic — think a stainless steel stove hood designed by Inspired Interiors owner Emily Mackie — illuminated oak cabinets lined inside with gleaming subway tile, a large warehouse styled window, and custom-made cabinet hardware direct from the foundry to this spectacular residence.

Custom printed images on triangular tiles featuring zoomed-in snapshots of the owner’s favorite books, albums, and other cultural milestones outline the master bathroom (a callback to the owner’s first residence), giving you something to consider while in the shower. Every guest and construction worker spent hours marveling at this unique feature!

The posh powder room boasts hunter green leather panels to evoke the inside of a vintage Aston Martin luxury sports car. The foyer showcases multiple custom design metal art panels featuring renown international graffiti artists. The rough metal panels provide the perfect rough backdrop for these unique graffiti art pieces. Central in the foyer is a hunter green leather bench designed to look like the back seat of a vintage automobile with retractable storage at the base. With gentle touch the owner can discreetly store shoes without disrupting the sophisticated and artistic design of this entry.

Guests are treated to a spacious second bedroom complete with a remote-controlled Murphy bed that retreats out of sight as needed to accommodate the space’s second life as a home office.

Oh, and let’s not forget the rain room, which opens out from the condo’s living room and kitchen and is highlighted by an illuminated glass staircase, bringing the outdoors in with unabashed elegance. A lush garden acts as a backdrop to a cafe table for all his morning coffees! The show-stopping glass staircase provides a big tease for the view that awaits you on the rooftop.

It all adds up to an unmistakable residence that goes beyond just the unforgettable view.
